There’s A Wedding Outfit For Every Bride: How To Find Your Dream Dress

July 2, 2021 By Miss L

Choosing your wedding dress is one of the most exciting aspects of wedding planning and something that many girls dream about their whole lives. It’s probably one of the things that you will spend a lot of your budget on but it’s important so it needs to be a dress that you fall in love with and that will make you feel amazing on your special day.

Finding your dream dress can be stressful, especially if you’re not sure where to start looking, however it really doesn’t need to be. It should be something that you enjoy and something that you can include your bridal party in as well. It will also be really nice to invite your mother along to help her to feel included in the planning process.

Do research on wedding dresses

If you’re not sure where to start with wedding dress shopping then it’s a good idea to start doing some initial research of existing dresses that you like. There are lots of places you can start with this, either visit Pinterest and create yourself a wedding dress board, and pin it with lots of images of dresses that you like.

Alternatively, wedding magazines are a great place to start and you can cut out some designs that you love and put them into a scrapbook.

Choose the style

The first thing to think about when you are choosing your wedding dress is to think about the style of dress that you want to have on the day. There are lots of different styles of dresses to choose from and also different lengths of dresses as well.

A long, trailing dress tends to be a popular choice amongst most brides, however if this isn’t your style, then you don’t need to opt for this. You may want to have a shorter wedding dress and really make a statement as you walk down the aisle.

Think about the material you would like

This is something that will have a big impact on the dress that you choose for your special day, as certain materials may only suit certain styles and designs. There are lots of materials that you can choose to have your wedding dress made of, from lace to silk. It all comes down to personal choice ultimately so think about the material that you would really like.

Make sure you shop early

You will find as you are wedding planning that being organised and planning early is key, and when it comes to your wedding dress this is no different. If you are looking to have a specific designer dress then you may need to plan a year or so in advance for your dress, as many designer dresses take a long time to make and deliver, due to the detail and individuality that goes into each one.

If you have a smaller budget and are choosing a dress that is either second hand or from a high street shop then you can be a bit more flexible with your timescales, although it’s still a good idea to plan early, as even some dress styles on the high street can sell out quickly.

Think about your accessories

It’s not just your wedding dress that you need to think about but also which accessories you want to have to complement your dress. This could be anything from your shoes, to the jewellery or even the perfume you choose on the day. If there are particular shoes you would like, or again, designer shoes then you will need to plan early for these as well.

Be prepared to try on lots of dresses

If you are going to have a shopping day and go wedding dress shopping then you will need to be prepared to try on lots of dresses. It’s very unlikely that the first dress you try on will be your dream dress, although I’m sure this does happen in some cases!

You might need to try on a variety of styles to see which one you prefer. Even if you have your heart set on a particular dress type, it’s worth trying on a mixture of dresses as you may change your mind when you see them on. Take your bridesmaids with you as well so that they can give you their opinions on which one they think suits you best as well.
