Why Cyprus has something for everyone

When it comes to European island destinations, there are few places more versatile than sunny Cyprus. This floating paradise has been tempting travellers to its sultry shores for decades, and it’s no surprise that it continues to rank as one of Europe’s prime holiday hotspots.

Much of Cyprus’ charm and appeal lies in its diversity. Multiple groups of tourists can all spend a week on the island and enjoy an entirely different experience. But what exactly can you expect to find there? In this post, we examine what makes Cyprus so suitable for all different types of travellers, to potentially inspire your next summer getaway.

History buffs

Cyprus is a treasure trove of fascinating architecture and relics that depict the island’s storied past, making it a real gem for anyone with a keen interest in history. The island plays a prominent role in Greek mythology, and is synonymous with Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. One of the best spots to connect with Cyprus’ mythological past is at Aphrodite’s Rock, just off the coast of Paphos, where the Goddess was said to have emerged from the sea.

The archaeological sites of Kourion, Amathus, and the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos are also a must-visit, to get a glimpse of the ancient civilisations that once called the island home. With so much to explore, it will be impossible to discover everything there is to see in just one trip, but with a little careful planning you’ll be able to tick off several of the spots you’ve always wanted to visit.

Young families

Cyprus is particularly popular amongst families seeking a safe, sunny and child-friendly holiday destination. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a resort, with family- focused hotels dotted all around the island. If you’re looking for inspiration, Limassol and Paphos are widely considered to be two of the best all-round destinations. Here you will find a mix of beaches, bars and restaurants, while also being in close proximity to some of the main tourist attractions.

Cyprus comes complete with all the hotspots that often feature on a child-centric itinerary. Aphrodite Waterpark in Paphos is perfect for children of all ages – the little ones will love making a splash in the interactive kids’ pool. There’s also a selection of zoos and animal sanctuaries across the island, perfect for those with a love for the animal kingdom.

If you’re looking for sandy beaches, aquatic activities, adventure parks and plenty more besides, Cyprus should be on your radar when planning your next family trip.

Night owls

A significant portion of Cyprus’ tourist industry relies on its thriving nightlife scene. Each year, thousands of young party-goers descend on the island in the pursuit of cheap thrills, and the vast majority of this crowd are drawn to the bright lights of Ayia Napa. This seaside resort is the jewel in the crown of Cyprus’ revered clubbing landscape, with an eclectic mix of over 80 bars and nightclubs welcoming patrons from all over the world through their doors.

Fear not, the fun doesn’t stop when the sun comes up. After a night spent navigating the heady heights and disco lights of Ayia Napa’s world-famous strip, there are plenty more ways to enjoy this indulgent resort. Nissi Beach is a particularly popular option amongst visitors and locals alike, with the white sands and clear waters offering the perfect backdrop for a day of rest and recuperation.
