You have just rented or purchased a new home and are out of ideas on how to make the plain-looking rooms stand out and be memorable? Or you just want to add something new to your current home? Then this post is for you. Here are some ideas on how to add a visual impact with interior design.
Add color and texture with fabrics and textiles
Curtains, carpets, throws, or sofa pillows are all great and easy ways to add color and texture to the interior design of your home. For example, I change the decorative covers of our sofa pillows once or twice a year. It’s just amazing how different colours and prints instantly change the whole look and feel of the room.
When you are budget-conscious then buying second-hand sofa pillow covers or curtains is a good option. And if you have a sewing machine then you can always buy the fabric and sew the new covers.
Make a statement with artwork
The easiest way (and also my favourite way) to update a room and make a visual impact is with eye-catching artwork. Depending on your budget, you can always go with a classic statement piece of art like an impressive painting or spectacular sculpture.
Or if you prefer a more budget-friendly version, then, why not consider a canvas print or poster to add something new to the room. You can also get creative and take a piece of fabric with striking print or color, frame it. and hang it on a wall as your statement piece.
You could also consider a motivational quote printed and framed. Something that would cheer you and everyone up, make you feel great, and add something positive to your day. You can always go with a ready-made product, or you could design one yourself using Font Bundles script fonts. There are just so many fonts to choose from the selection of the script fonts that creating your own special and unique design is a breeze.
Make visual impact in interior design with wallpaper
Wallpaper is used in interior decoration to decorate walls. It’s a relatively easy way to create an attractive design without altering the walls too much. You can always go with a trend like bold and daring patterns or accent walls. I personally like the accent wall trend, where you use an eye-catching wallpaper or wall mural on one wall and paint the rest of the walls in a shade that would bring out your accent wall even better.
When it comes to wallpaper designs then there are many to choose. You can go with a wallpaper that is decorated with prints – flowers, stripes, geometric shapes, or designer wallpaper, or a wall mural.
Furniture
Although both textiles and wall decor plays a huge part in an overall aesthetic of a room, then furniture has also a massive impact and sets the tone for the room. Furniture is both practical and aesthetical. You can also use it to add a pop of colour to the room.
Nowadays there are so many styles of furniture to choose from at different price point. You can either buy a brand new piece of furniture or give a new life to a pre-loved one. You can always take up a DIY project and upcycle a piece of furniture you already own. Or you can shop at local flea-markets or from an online auction site and buy one cheap to fix it up.
When it comes to furniture then you will have to consider the size of the room and also the size of the furniture. And don’t forget that less is more! Meaning that too much furniture in any room may look and feel heavy and cluttered.
Get creative with paint
If you feel that wallpaper or decorative artwork isn’t your thing, but a simple plain wall isn’t your cup of tea either, then you can get creative with the wall paint. There are many creative painting techniques available nowadays, and therefore giving a room a complete makeover isn’t complicated.
For example, you can use stencils to make your wall look outstanding. It’s easy to do and doesn’t cost a fortune either.
Color washing is another easy paint technique that helps to add texture to the wall. And if that seems a bit too complicated then you could also do sponging. You could either use a sponge paint roller or a regular sponge to add texture and depth. It’s a simple and fun way to make a visual impact.
So here were some ideas on how to make a visual impact with interior design to make the room memorable and not boring.
