This week, on the 24th of February, Estonia celebrates its Independence Day. The 24th of February is an important day for most Estonians. Usually, around that date, we have all kinds of events to celebrate the Independence Day – military parade, concerts, etc. However this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic most of the events are cancelled.
The most important and most anticipated event usually is the President’s reception and a gala concert that most of us can enjoy via television. Reception is loved by many because it is always interesting to see all those beautiful gowns and clothes worn by the guests. This year everyone can only enjoy our President’s speech and concert via television and there’s no reception. And people are asked to celebrate Estonia’s 103rd birthday at home.
We actually have usually celebrated it at home anyway and so it’s not that different for our family. I usually bake a cake for the 24th of February – a cake that my family loves, make some potato salad, make sandwiches with spiced Baltic sprats and black rye bread, etc.
But Estonian Independence Day is also a perfect opportunity to put together blue, black, and white outfits. Why those colours? Well, these are the colours of the Estonian flag. Our flag has three horizontal stripes: blue, black, and white.
So here’s my blue, black, and white outfit for Estonian Independence Day. When I started planning this outfit then I remembered that I have this beautiful blue chiffon dress that I have worn only once. And it has been sitting in my wardrobe for seven years now waiting for its time! This dress is from Sammydress (it is now closed, but Sammydress used to be one of those cheap Chinese sites). I loved the colour of the dress but the length of the dress wasn’t my cup of tea. So I took it to the seamstress and had it altered, and so it’s now a knee-length dress.
I added a simple black blazer … and a pair of white Nike court trainers. White trainers with a chiffon dress is a combination that I would have never-ever put together a few years ago but with this outfit these just seemed to go together so well. Oh, and I also added a white watch and a pair of beautiful Kuma Butterfly Effect earrings.
My blue, black and white outfit
- blue knee-length chiffon dress
- black blazer
- white Nike trainers
- white Michael Kors watch
- Kuma Butterfly Effect earrings
