Tips for Saving Towards Your Mortgage Deposit

January 29, 2021 By Miss L

Isn’t everybody’s favorite hobby spending their free time daydreaming about their ideal home, looking through property websites? Most of the time, the ones you fall in love with aren’t within the budgets of the first time buyer but can still be a great tool for goal setting. Look at Compass real estate agents based in Nashville, Tennessee, for example. Stunning properties in the outskirts of Nashville. Yes please!

While these types of property may not be obtainable, it’s never a bad idea to do what you can to save towards your first mortgage. Here’s how you can do that.

Manage Your Budget

Before you can save you need to understand your budget. The first step towards this is to look at your income and the set outgoings such as your rent, credit card payments, utility bills and food. You’ve done this, you should be able to see how much money you have leftover to play with. You should then look at the places where you can start to cut costs. What are the things that you can go without for a while, if it means being able to save told that 20% deposit sooner.

You’ll find it interesting to see how much you are able to cut down on without having to impact too much on your quality of life.

Work that credit score

Mortgage lenders are not going to pay you any mind if you have a bad credit rating. Bad credit more often than not, means that you have difficulty paying things back on time. That is bad news from mortgage lenders. To improve your credit you need to have a steady credit history, and to show yourself as being good at paying back your debts. You should start by trying to pay off anything at all that you owe and You will soon be able to build up your credit score enough to where you will be offered better rate mortgages. A great thing especially as you go deeper into paying your mortgage back.

Get a Side Hustle

If you already work a full-time job, the idea of getting an extra job may seem very daunting. However a second source of income doesn’t mean having to work 80+ hours per week. In fact you can have a good source of additional income without having to burn yourself out. An option for you could be to write a blog, manage a social media account, or do deliveries in your spare time. Most of these options will be on a freelance basis, meaning that you can do As little or as much work as you want to or have the capacity to do. Any additional income soon adds up and you’ll be one step closer to saving up towards your mortgage.

Shop around

As with anything, a larger investment requires the same level as shopping around as you would for getting a good deal on a pair of shoes. Don’t accept the first offer you’re given for a mortgage, when they could be a better option waiting just around the corner. Shopping around can mean the difference between paying back over the odds per month, or just the right amount
