Back in July, our 2-year old finally moved out of our bedroom and started sleeping in his bedroom. That meant that we now had much more room in our bedroom, and we could now start our bedroom makeover. In a way, that makeover isn’t difficult, because when we bought our house last year, then we said to the seller that we wanted simple plain white walls. That means that just a carpet and artwork on a wall can make a huge difference.
Over the weekend, we started our bedroom makeover. And we started it with wallpaper. Back in February, I had an opportunity to work with Photowall. Back then, I added a touch of color to my simple minimalistic living-room with Photowall canvas print. But back in February, I also noticed Photowall’s huge selection of wallpapers and wall murals and, I knew that once it’s time to redecorate our bedroom or our boys’ rooms, then I’ll probably order my wallpaper from there.
Choosing the Wallpaper
I guess the most complicated part was choosing the wallpaper. Why? Well, on the Photowall site, there are just so many designs and styles to choose from. The selection of wallpapers and wall murals is huge – there is something for everyone and for every room. You can narrow down the selection by category, style, color, or format, but I decided to browse through all styles and designs.
When it comes to wallpaper style then, I wanted something simple, modest, relaxing. An idea of maybe feathers or palm leaves seemed like a good idea for me. However, my hubby wanted something beach or big city themed. So I must say that finding THE ONE wallpaper that would be perfect for our bedroom was a challenge.
So what we did was – I chose the designs I liked, and he chose his favorites, and then we just ended up choosing between those. Narrowing the choice down to the last two designs wasn’t difficult. But picking the right one from the last two was difficult. Once we had made our final decision, I ordered a beach themed wallpaper with palm leaves, sand, water, some mountains far far away … So at least I got my palm leaves, and he got his beach 😀
Placing my order
Placing my order was probably the easiest part of this all. I chose the wallpaper design I liked and then entered the dimensions for my wallpaper. Then, I chose wallpaper quality. I had two choices – either the Standard quality that is cheaper or Premium that costs a bit more. I decided to go with Premium quality because it is scrape-resistant and also suitable for cleaning products. You know with kids you can really never know what may end up on the wall and so it seemed a good idea to go with the one that we could easily clean and that doesn’t scratch easily. I can’t really complain because my boys haven’t used walls for their art projects, yet, but I think it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Next, I added the wallpaper to the cart. To my surprise, the system automatically suggested that I may want to add a Wallpaper Kit to my cart, too. To tell you the truth, it’s good that it did! Since we had no previous experience with hanging wallpaper then we also didn’t have most of the tools that make wallpaper installation easier. I was already trying to figure out what exactly I will have to buy from my local home improvement store, but the Photowall Wallpaper Kit saved me from that trip.
I must say that the delivery time of the wallpaper was super quick! I placed my order on Tuesday, and DHL delivered it on Thursday. Like wow! That was quick!
I like that the Phtotowall wallpaper comes with a wallpaper paste that you just have to mix with 4 litres of lukewarm water.
Putting up the Photowall Wallpaper
Well, putting up the wallpaper was a bit scary. Neither I or my hubby have ever put up wallpaper. For me, putting up a wallpaper has always seemed something super complicated and easy to mess up.
I love watching House Rules (an Australian reality TV show where state-based teams of two renovate each other’s homes, with the team receiving the highest score winning an ultimate prize) and I have seen several times there how some teams who have said that “Oh, putting up a wallpaper is so easy …” have messed it up pretty bad.
So yeah, so far we had just stayed away from wallpaper because canvas prints and framed posters are just easier to hang up.
We watched the video tutorial on Photowall site several times and thoroughly read the instructions so we wouldn’t mess anything up.
Next, we checked the wall to make sure it was smooth and clean. Luckily our wall was white, and therefore we didn’t have to worry about priming the wall. After that, we checked the wallpaper to make sure there aren’t any defects or damage, and then we cut off the panels. Next, we mixed the wallpaper paste and let it stand for 5 minutes.
And then started the fun part – hanging up the wallpaper. I must say that although putting up the first panel was more complicated because we didn’t put enough glue on the wall and so the wallpaper didn’t want to stick to the wall very well. I feel that putting up the rest of the panels was relatively easy. And I’m happy to tell you that we didn’t mess up anything.
Photowall Wallpaper Quality
When it comes to the Photowall wallpaper quality then the Premium quality wallpaper looks beautiful. It is nice and thick and the image looks brilliant. I have heard and read that some wallpapers may stretch out during hanging or you may end up with caps between the panels etc etc etc. Luckily the Photowall Premium Quality wallpaper was easy to hang up and we didn’t have any problems at all.
My overall thoughts
I have to admit that we aren’t finished with our bedroom, yet, because we are still missing bedside tables and a new chest of drawers. A few months ago I found really nice bedside tables from IKEA Estonia but unfortunately they are still out of stock. I also ordered a new bedding set with palm leaves that should arrive next week. Okay, to tell you the truth I’m also thinking about buying a new bed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the one we have now, however, I feel like continental bed would just be a better option and it would also look better.
When it comes to our experience with Photowall wallpaper then I’m pleasantly surprised. The whole process was easier than I had thought and probably thanks to the Photowall wallpaper quality we didn’t experience any of those issues that I have heard and read about.

Leelo, it looks like you did a fabulous job! I think your bed looks good with the new mural. Has sort of a beachy vibe. I followed the link to your canvas print post, too, and thought your living room looks great. The print is perfect for that space. You’re really personalizing your new house. #PoCoLo
