What You Can Do with “Last Season’s” Clothes

July 26, 2017 By Miss L

Do you have too many old unwanted clothes you aren’t sure what to do with? If they are just clogging up your closet, why not do something about it to de-clutter? You can sell them online to make extra money, swap them with others pieces of clothing, or donate to people who need them.

What You Can Do with Last Season's Clothes

Here’s how you can get rid of your old clothes and maybe, get a little something in return.

Sell It

A great way to hit two birds with one stone is to sell your unwanted clothes. Not only will this allow you to clean your closet, it will also give you a way to make some extra cash.

  • Select a Marketplace

Selling things online has so easy with more and more online sites and apps emerging every year. The traditional method of posting your old stuff through Amazon and eBay is one way of going about it. However, there are other e-commerce platforms to choose from.

You can also sell your clothes in niche sites like Etsy (if your items are more vintage and eccentric). You can also create an online clothing shop from scratch with barely any coding involved if you really want to take this pastime seriously. Having your own site gives you over-all control of your online business.

  • Use quality photos and write thorough descriptions

No matter what platform you use, you must always have quality photos and thorough descriptions for your items. Customers can only see your clothes through a monitor or smart phone screen. How else can they learn about the item if they can’t see it or inspect it?

  • Iron out your shipping method

Most e-commerce platforms offer ways for you to ship your items. In the rare case that they don’t, you should always make sure to get a reliable shipping service. You wouldn’t want your items lost in transit.

Swap It

If you want to get new clothes in exchange of your old ones, clothes swapping can be an option for you. This way, you can get something you want for something that you were about to throw away.

  • Join/Host a Swap Party

A swap party is an event where people meet up to exchange used clothes with one another. Different places have different rules, but usually you can exchange one item for another.

  • Swap Clothes Online

There are social networks dedicated to trading clothes. When you put your items on their site, other users can view it and request to swap it with an item of their own. After agreeing upon the exchange, you can meet the other person face-to-face or swap your items through a courier service.

Donate It

If you have no interest in selling or exchanging your clothes, you can always donate them to charity. Doing so can help someone in need.

  • Drop off at Charity Center

There are charitable organizations such as The Salvation Army that accept clothes for donations. Usually, they have drop-off facilities where you can easily hand over whatever it is you want to donate.

  • Donate Them Online

Certain sites such as Excess Access have a service that allows you to post pictures of items you plan to donate. They will then match your donations with wish lists from other charities. This method ensures that your clothes really go to someone who needs them.

With these tips, you can clean up your closet and get a little something in return. Whether it’s cash, new clothes or the happy glow of giving, depends entirely on you.

I usually have “sell” and “donate” baskets to segregate my clothes. Thanks for the tips though. 🙂
