Fat Burning Tips for the Over 50s

November 26, 2016 By Leelo

If you’re over 50 years of age, you’re likely noticing that it’s a lot harder to lose weight and stay in shape than when you were younger. Your body has changed quite a bit and your fat burning abilities have slowed down. Thankfully, though, there are some fat burning tips specifically geared towards those who are over 50 years old, and you can start incorporating these tips into your daily life to start getting great results.

Take a Weight Loss Supplement

There are a host of weight loss supplements on the market. To get some of them, you need a prescription, but there are also many natural supplements that can help you lose weight. A great example is raspberry ketone, which can help your body burn more fat naturally. If you’re on any prescription medications, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor before taking any type of weight loss product, as you want to be sure that the medications won’t interact negatively with the supplements that you want to take to slim down.

Exercise with Weights

Staying active is really important as you get older. Without regular physical activity, your body will become stiff and less mobile. And once you reach the age of 50, you have roughly 20 per cent less muscle mass, and that can slow down your metabolism too. If you wish to keep the weight and the fat off your body, you should head to the gym and participate in a weight training routine that will help boost your muscle mass, metabolism, and ability to burn fat.

Fat Burning Tips for the Over 50s

Check Your Hormones

As you get older, your hormones, including your testosterone and progesterone, will decline. This causes the body to store fat rather than lose it. Have your doctor check your adrenal glands, thyroid, and hormone levels. Once your doctor determines if there are any imbalances at play, you can work together to balance your hormones and help your body naturally maintain a healthy weight.

Eat Plenty of Healthy Fats

in addition to not overdoing it on calorie intake, reducing your consumption of unhealthy saturated fat and cholesterol is one obvious step that you can take to lose weight. But increasing your consumption of healthy fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, is also important. These fatty acids help maintain your overall health, but they can even help you build muscle, lose fat, and recover more quickly after exercising. A few examples of foods that contain high amounts of healthy fats are olive oil, coconut oil, fish oil, flaxseed oil, peanut butter, avocados, seeds, and nuts like walnuts and almonds.

Once you figure out the best way to eat and exercise for your age, you should find that you are able to slim down and maintain a healthy weight much more easily. Remember, the key is to stay active to build more muscle that will help burn more fat. You also want to be sure to eat right every day, and take the right supplements that naturally support fat burning.
