Barclay Hotel, Tartu, Estonia. UPDATED 3/2016

Almost 2 months ago (yes back in May :P) mr.R and I visited Tartu again and this time we stayed at the Barclay Hotel (their website) which is in the city centre. Again we booked out rooms using www.booking.com. I am loving this site more and more, because you can find pretty good deals on that site for booking accommodation.

Peaaegu kaks kuud tagasi (jah juba nii ammu :P) külastasime mr.R´ga Tartut ning seekord valisime ööbimiskohaks Barclay Hotelli, mis asub mugavalt kohe Tartu südalinnas. Toa broneerisime jällegi kasutades www.booking.com lehekülge. See leht meeldib mulle aina rohkem ja rohkem, kuna sealt on väga mugav leida kohati väga häid pakkumisi majutusele nii Eestis kui ka välismaal.

My opinion of Barclay Hotel

Pros

• location – it is in the town centre and so everything (bus station, nightclubs, restaurants, Tasku and Kaubamaja shopping centers, Theater Vanemuine etc) is just walking distance away from you.
• clean – I don´t have anything bad to say about the cleanliness of our room. Of course the bottom half of the shower curtain was a bit too yellowish.
• comfy – our room was middle-sized. I liked that there were sofa and armchair also, not only a bed, chair and table.
• breakfast – was ok. It didn´t wow me, but everything I ate tasted fine. I loved that they actually served juice not some kind of juice-like stuff that is diluted with water.
• restaurant – Barclay Hotel has a fish restaurant called Neljapäev. I seriously loved its interior – it was all sea themed with fishnets and seashells.
• quiet – since our room was with park view then it was quiet. If you get the room with street view then it probably won´t be that quiet.

Cons

• parking – well there´s street parking and in case there´s no room on the street then they do have a really tiny parking lot (I DO NOT advise parking there if you have bigger SUV, because I had lot of trouble maneuvering there with my Subaru XV which is not that huge)
• small bathroom – for me it seemed small, but that´s just me

There was one more thing that I wanted to add under cons, but since I am not sure if it was booking.com website faults or smth, but on the booking.com website it was promised that this room has a jacuzzi and when we arrived then we found that it was just a ood old bath. Overall it was an ok hotel, but I doubt that we are going to stay there again in the future.

Positiivne

• auskoht – Barclay hotelli asukoht on super kuna see on täpselt kesklinnas ja seega Vanemuise teater, ööklubid, restoranid, vaatamisväärsuses, bussijaam, Tasku ja Kaubamaja on vaid lühikese jalutuskäigu kaugusel
• puhtus – tuba oli puhas ja tolmurulle kuskil ei veerenud 😀 Vannitoa dušikardina kohta võiks küll kobiseda kuna see oli alumisest äärest kollakas juba.
• mugav – meie tuba oli keskmise suurusega. Mulle meeldis, et toas oli lisaks tavapärasele voodile, toolile ja lauale ka diivan ja tugitool.
• hommikusöök – hommikusöök ei tekitanud küll wow efekti, ent samas oli kõik, mida sõin hea maitsega. Tore oli see, et mahl oli mahl, mitte aga veega lahjendatud mahlalaadne nähtus.
• restoran – Barclay hotelli restoran Neljapäeva nimeline kalarestoran. Mulle väga meeldis selle restorani mereteemaline sisekujundus koos kalavõrkude ja merikarpidega.
• vaikne – kuna meie tuba jäi pargi poole, siis meie tuba oli vaikne. Kui aga toa aknad jäävad tänava poole, siis tõenäoliselt nii vaikne ei ole.

Negatiivne

• parkimine – parkida saad tänaval ja kui tänava ääres kohad peaksid täis olema, siis paar autot mahub ka nende sisehoovi juhul. AGA sinna sisehoovi ma suuremat sorti autoga ei soovita sõita, sest näiteks Subaru XV´ga, mis ei ole mingi hiigelsuur masin, olin ma seal manööverdamisega ikka üsna hädas. 
• väike vannituba – vannituba oli kuidagi väike

Üks negatiivne märkus veel, kuid kuna ma pole kindel kelle poolne apsakas see on (booking.com´i või Barclay hotelli), siis ma seda negatiivse alla ei lisanud, ent igatahes oleks pidanud booking.com´i järgi olema toas ka mullivann, mida aga, nagu isegi piltidelt näete, seal ei olnud. Kokkuvõttes on tegu ok hotelliga, aga ma kahtlen, et me sinna uuesti lähme. 

UPDATE from March 2016

Well although two years ago I was pretty sure that we will not visit Hotel Barclay again, then we ended up there this weekend again. We were given a room 64 on the 5th floor. When we arrived it seemed okay and so we were happy with it.

Well we went to the cinema and when we came back to the hotel around midnight we discovered that the nightclub Vabank is way too close to our room 🙁 I mean we didn’t just hear the beat from the distance, but we could actually hear the lyrics of the songs played in the nightclub 🙁 since we were quite tired then we hoped that maybe, just maybe it won’t be a problem. Another thing I noticed once I was ready to go to bed was that the sheets weren’t white, but they had this greyish hue and what even worse there were actual stains on my pillow case and duvet cover 🙁 Okay whatever! At that point, my opinion of Hotel Barclay dropped a lot!

Around 2 am my husband called the reception and told that it is impossible to sleep in this room and to our great surprise they are totally aware of the problem and so luckily they agreed to put us in another room on 2nd floor. The room we received was much smaller than the first one, but at least it was quiet and the bedding was white as snow and there weren’t any stains on them.

Well well well….. It seems that the room 64 is meant for some sort of party animals, because it is impossible to sleep there until 4 or 5 am (when the nightclub is closed) plus they don’t even put spotless bedding there. Seriously? DISAPPOINTED!

UUENDUS märtsist 2016

Kuigi kaks aastat tagasi olin suhteliselt kindel, et Barclay hotelli me enam tulevikus ei lähe, siis siiski mingil kummalisel põhjusel bronnis mu kallis abikaasa toa just seal. Seekord saime endale toa nr 64 5. korrusel. Kohale jõudes tundus tuba igati ok.

Õhtul käisime kinos ja kui südaöö paiku sealt saabusime tabas meid ebameeldiv üllatus, sest ööklubi Vabankis toimuv oli meie tuppa liigagi hästi kuulda. Oleks siis olnud vaid kaugelt kostuv tümps, aga kahjuks olid lausa lauludes sõnad eristatavad :S Olime suht väsinud ja seega lootsime naiivselt, et ehk ikka ei ole see väga suur probleem. Veel üks negatiivne asi, mis magama minnes ilmnes oli see, et kui ma voodipesu lähemalt lõpuks vaatasin, siis tundus see pigem selline hallikas, mitte aga valge nagu tavaliselt normaalsetes hotellides on. Lisaks avastasin veel nii tekikotilt kui ka padjapüürilt mingid plekid, mis polnud pesus välja tulnud 🙁 

Kella 2 paiku öösel helistas mr.R alla vastuvõttu ja teatas, et selles toas 64 ei ole võimalik magada ja selgus, et ega nad on väga hästi teadlikud, et ööklubi tuppa nõnda hästi ära kostab. Ilma vastuvaidlemata anti meile teine tuba, mis asus 2.korrusel ning õnneks oli seal vaikne ning minu suureks üllatuseks oli voodipesu seal plekitu ja lumivalge. Tuba oli küll palju väiksem kui meie esimene tuba aga tundus tunduvalt normaalsem. 

Njaaa….. sellist jama ei oskagi kuidagi ausalt öeldes kommenteerida. Tundub, et tuba 64 on mõeldud peoloomadele, kes niikuinii enne kella 4 või 5 hommikul magama ei lähe ja kes niikuinii toa täis läbustavad, et isegi norm voodipesu sinna ei olnud pandud. Tõsiselt suur pettumus!
