My today´s post is about Llandudno. As you can guess from the name it has something to do with Wales 😀 It is a seaside resort and town in Wales. When we were driving there from Caernarfon then the weather was really lovely and sunny and from time to time it felt like we were driving in Spain or Crete, because of the sun, mountains and views. The only thing that helped us remind that we were still in UK was the fact that we were driving on the left side of the road 😀
When we arrived to Llandudno then the weather was cloudy and not very warm, but what caught my attention was that this small town reminded me more of a seaside resort town from some southern Europe country and not a town from Great Britain.
According to visitllandudno.org.uk the appearance of the town, unlike most other resorts, has remained largely unchanged for over a century. On the photo above you can see the a big white house in the middle of the photo. This is The Grand Hotel which from the distance looks really majestic and grand, but when we were walking on the pier then … I actually can believe that there hasn´t been many changes lately, because the hotel looked not that nice close up – there was rust everywhere, dirty windows etc and so I´m not sure I would like to stay at that hotel, ever! But the town itself was really nice – pastel coloured houses, shops,
When we were walking on the promenade and 700m long pier (the longest one in Wales, built in 1878 the sun suddenly came out and it was so warm and lovely and I could almost imagine myself lying on the beach.
Alice in Wonderland fans might recognise this statue – it is The Mad Hatter.
From visitllandudno.org.uk: “Alice Liddell, the young girl who inspired Lewis Carroll to write the famous Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass tales, spent many a happy childhood holiday with her family in Llandudno during the 1860s and 1870s. This connection with Alice has been marked by a series of wooden figures from the tales including the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit placed around the town at locations between the railway station and the Happy Valley.”
I´m so sorry I did not know about this Alice trail before visiting Llandudno, because I think it would have been so cool to visit over 40 points of interest around the town that has connection with the book. But if you are planning to visit Wales and you are a fan of Alice in Wonderland then at least you know what it your must-visit place 😀
